WSW stands for

“We’re Still Working!” on November 8 at 3:00 pm

Many of our regular audience members at our Westchester Symphonic Winds concerts over the past decade are probably feeling a familiar emotional sensation about this time of year. The leaves are turning, the Headless Horseman is about to take his yearly ride, and it’s soon time to go to Tarrytown Music Hall for our afternoon concert on the first Sunday of November. We’ve had great audiences at our Fall Concerts over the years, and we hope you’ve attended those performances, and many more.

This year, with the pandemic still ravaging our world, WSW is still sponsoring an event on Sunday, November 8 at 3:00 pm, but this year it will be a virtual event via YouTube instead of a live concert in the wonderful Tarrytown Music Hall. This event will feature highlighted excerpts of past concerts, as well as conversations with featured friends, led by our music director, Curt Ebersole.

The Westchester Symphonic Winds has, like all performing ensembles, been on hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this award-winning ensemble has been active during the shut down. And that is why we’re calling this program WSW stands for “We’re Still Working.”

The band has been meeting biweekly since March on the Zoom platform, to gather socially and support one another. Members of the band have met outdoors in a socially distanced setup to rehearse, and members have met virtually for online rehearsals. We instituted a new program, Curbside Concerts, where small ensembles arrive on neighbor’s driveways to play a short program to reignite the love of live music. As a part of the community outreach plan of its mission statement, Curt Ebersole, our conductor/music director, formed a Band Directors Group forum on Zoom for member directors, and extended an open invitation to band directors in Westchester, Rockland, Fairfield, and New York City to join us to discuss all types of issues surrounding the music education community during this challenging time.

In order to reach out directly to you, our faithful audience members, and invite others to experience the best of American community band performance, WSW planned this online event in place of its annual Fall Concert, on Sunday, November 8 at 3:00 pm. This virtual meeting, “WSW - We’re Still Working,” featured the plans the band has for the future, including our exciting commission project with composer Michael Markowski, who will be a featured guest during the webinar.
